Ethnic minority officers continue to face unique challenges in policing, including experiences of racism and discrimination both within and outside the workplace. The 90-minute webinar explored these issues and consider how forces and organisations can create more inclusive environments, improve support mechanisms, and strengthen confidence in reporting processes.

Paul Crowley was joined by Lee Sims and Julian Hat, Chair and Vice Chair of Humberside Federation, who launched the Protect the Protectors: Stop Racism Against Police campaign after research revealed that 50% of minority ethnic officers and police staff in Humberside had experienced racial abuse while on duty. The findings also highlighted a concerning trend: many incidents went unreported due to fears of being perceived as difficult or a lack of confidence that concerns would be taken seriously.

Together, Paul, Lee and Julian discussed the impact of racism on officers and staff, the barriers to reporting, and the practical steps organisations can take to foster a culture where everyone feels supported, respected, and empowered to speak up. This session offered valuable insights for anyone committed to advancing equality, inclusion, and wellbeing within policing.
