Ethnic minority officers continue to face unique challenges in policing, including experiences of racism and discrimination both within and outside the workplace. Hayley Aley, the Federation's Equality Lead will be joined by Lee Sims, Chair of Humberside Federation, who launched the Protect the Protectors: Stop Racism Against Police campaign after research revealed that 50% of minority ethnic officers and police staff in Humberside had experienced racial abuse while on duty. The findings also highlighted a concerning trend: many incidents went unreported due to fears of being perceived as difficult or a lack of confidence that concerns would be taken seriously.

Together, Hayley and Lee will discuss the impact of racism on officers and staff, the barriers to reporting, and the practical steps organisations can take to foster a culture where everyone feels supported, respected, and empowered to speak up.
