Sophie King

Inspector - Sussex Police

Sophie King is an Inspector with Sussex Police and a dedicated Police Federation representative with a strong passion for equality. She is the lead for Sexism and Sexual Harassment in the Workplace within Sussex Police’s gender equality network, Evolve. In this role, Sophie established a mentoring and support scheme comprising more than 80 trained officers and staff. This network provides visible support across the force to individuals experiencing sexism or sexual harassment, and offers guidance to those seeking to intervene and challenge inappropriate behaviour. The scheme aims to empower colleagues to confidently challenge, record and or report sexism across the organisation. Sophie delivers CPD to officers and staff in various departments across Sussex to ensure wider organisational learning.

Alongside this work, Sophie works closely with new recruits as the Inspector for the coaching department to ensure the development and confidence of those at the very start of their career. She has personally mentored many women preparing for promotion and strives to create an inclusive and supportive workplace culture. Sophie’s approach reflects the International Women’s Day theme “Give to Gain,” demonstrating how mentoring and advocacy can drive meaningful change. Sophie hopes to create a workplace where women feel empowered and able to succeed.
