Sharon Baker

Superintendent - Avon & Somerset Police

Sharon Baker is a Superintendent with Avon and Somerset Police. As a Chief Inspector, she publicly shared her own experience of an officer and victim of domestic abuse, helping to challenge stigma and encourage more open conversations across the service.   Sharon led the development of Avon and Somerset Police's Domestic Abuse Pledge, a policy that has established tangible support mechanisms for colleagues affected by domestic abuse, at its heart is the survivor support network she has built, the approach is now being adopted in forces up and down the country.

In recognition of her leadership and advocacy, Sharon was awarded the Police Federation's Outstanding Contribution to Women in Policing Award in 2021. Since then, she has continued to drive cultural change within policing, championing the importance of language, attitudes and organisational responses in building confidence for victims and survivors.

Through her work, Sharon continues to influence how policing supports its officers and staff who are victim-survivors,  to promote healthier workplace cultures, and create environments where people feel safe to seek help, speak openly and be supported.
