Melanie joined Hampshire Constabulary in 1994, becoming an accredited Detective in 1999 working in the main CID office and major investigations. She transferred to Surrey Police in 2002 continuing her Detective work in safeguarding, problem-solving in a neighbourhood team as well as in CID. Mel became a Fed rep in 2014 to further help colleagues who already looked to her for help in the workplace, owing to her experience.
Mel became Chair of Surrey Police Federation in 2016 and continued representing and supporting colleagues through conduct investigations as well as high-profile inquests alongside the full-time role as Chair. For ten years, Mel has been part of the Police Federation National Detectives Forum (PFNDF) as a Surrey Federation Rep and since she was elected to the National Board in June 2022 Mel has been PFNDF Secretary. Mel is keen to raise the profile of detectives and is thrilled to be working alongside a similar-minded team.
