Carlos Ortiz
Deputy Chief, Commanding Officer of the Special Victims Division, New York Police Department
Deputy Chief Carlos Ortiz is a 26-year veteran of the NYPD. He joined the department in April of 1997 and began his career on patrol in the 44 Precinct. He is currently the Commanding Officer of the Special Victims Division. Previously, he was the Special Projects Inspector in the Patrol Services Bureau and the Commanding Officer of the 115 Precinct. He served as the Detective Borough Bronx Duty Captain for both Zone 7 and Zone 20, covering all the heavy, high-crime precincts within the Bronx, as well as being the Executive Officer for both the 24 and 32 Precincts. Throughout his career, he also held positions within Police Service Area 8 and the 45 Precinct. Deputy Chief Ortiz earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Depauw University in Indiana, is a graduate of the Homeland Security Executive Leaders Program at Naval Post Graduate School for Homeland Defense and Security, as well as a graduate of the Senior Management Institute for Police at the Police Executive Research Forum.
